Benham understands the difference between “old age homes” and comfortable, inviting, homey environments for our seniors. We focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere in independent and assisted-living facilities that are popular options for many seniors, and necessary for others. Our facilities offer specialized services and amenities far beyond those available in most private homes.
Design for a retirement community differs greatly from that of a nursing home. Although independent-living facilities are considered institutional, their residents call it home. We know it is important for those facilities to actually look and feel like home, while meeting the special requirements of the senior residents.
Most residents move to independent or assisted-living facilities from their own homes, where some have lived for forty or fifty years. Although the new space is significantly different from a private home, we avoid the “hotel” look that has become a stereotype for some of these facilities. With common areas accommodating many different activities, our interiors beckon seniors to interact and enjoy the company of the other residents.
Every detail we select contributes to our effort – from the color schemes, lighting and selection of interior materials to artwork, accessories, furnishings and fabrics. Because many of these folks furnished their homes in the thirties and forties, we often use antique-reproduction furnishings from that era, where appropriate.
We love the work we do to provide a higher quality of life for seniors. When a resident stops us to say, “Thank you, I love my new home!” we’re proud that we’ve made a difference!
