Benham provided full A/E design of this new two-story, 52,702 SF training facility which includes classrooms, research areas, office areas, special purpose spaces, secure compartmented information facility (SCIF) areas, and computer rooms. The world-class facility accommodates 142 permanent training staff and 300 students in the instruction in space systems, capabilities, requirements and strategies to support National Security.
Working with Users, Benham provided a design scheme which prioritizes open space, is one of high-tech, modern, sleek, and no-nonsense, and integrates architecture with landscape. We reexamined the traditional relationship between student and teacher (instructor) — building and landscape. The facility includes collaborative research lab spaces for students with moveable partitions in order breakdown into small groups. A control room within the space creates battle scenarios and training exercises that are conducted in a team versus team set-up. A Distance Learning Multi-Media room provides communication with alternate learning locations. A web studio supports long distance learning programs and on-site course scenarios.
