Project Description
- Client:Solutia Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company
- Location:Suzhou, China
Benham conducted a feasibility study, selected a local design firm, and outlined the detailed engineering plans and drawings plans for the development of a Saflex® polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer manufacturing facility located in Suzhou Industrial Park in China. Benham also provided engineering and construction services for Solutia Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company, during the project.
“Our understanding of Solutia's manufacturing plant requirements uniquely positioned Benham to deliver an innovative concept design and lead this exciting project from concept to completion.”
– Larry Block, Benham Vice President
We created the DesignBuildSM bid package for site development, production buildings, building infrastructure systems, and process support utilities on the 50,000-square-meter site. Benham also participated in the identification and selection of a local design institute to enter into a DesignBuild contract for execution of detailed engineering, systems process support, and construction. Systems process support included:
• Chilled water refrigeration system
• Process cooling-tower water system
• Outside air dehumidification system
• Steam and condensate system
• Compressed air system
During construction and plant start-up, we served as the owner’s agent to conduct monthly observations of construction progress, schedule, cost, and quality. Benham stayed ahead of industry trends to design a safe, technologically advanced, and energy efficient facility.
